If you're a TalkTalk broadband or broadband and home phone customer you may be automatically transferred to new-ish supplier Rise Fibre in the coming months.

Telecoms firm TalkTalk is selling approximately 120,000 customers to Rise Fibre. The move will take Rise Fibre's total customer base to 250,000, while TalkTalk will still have around 1.5 million customers.

Rise Fibre is a relatively new full fibre broadband provider, which launched in June 2025. It operates on the Openreach, CityFibre and 4th Utility networks. Full fibre is touted as more reliable than standard fibre and can offer speeds 30 times faster. See our 'Fibre to the premises' broadband guide for further info.

It follows TalkTalk selling its Origin broadband brand to Utility Warehouse last year.

Both providers are contacting everyone affected – you shouldn't need to do anything for now

If you're affected, you should have been contacted by the firms about the move on Monday 3 August. Rise Fibre told us:

  • The move will happen automatically. And Rise Fibre says everyone being moved across will see their broadband supported.

  • Your broadband speed will stay the same. This means you can keep using your existing Wi-Fi router and you shouldn't see any difference in broadband speeds.

  • There shouldn't be any downtime during the move (when it happens). If you do lose service for whatever reason and an outage lasts for longer than two working days, you should be entitled to compensation from TalkTalk under the industry regulator Ofcom's rules (though Rise Fibre isn't currently signed up to this scheme).

The majority of households being transferred are connected through the CityFibre network behind the scenes. This is a full fibre network that broadband providers can use to run their services, similar to Openreach (the biggest player in the space).

What the transfer means for your bills and payments

Here's what you need to know:

  • You'll stay on the same contract. If you're still in contract with TalkTalk, you'll stay on it and you'll still be subject to an early termination charge if you want to switch away (unless you're still within your 14-day cooling-off period).

  • Your monthly price won't change. Rise Fibre says everything will stay the same for now, except you will be billed and served by it "in the near future".

  • You should keep paying your bills in full and on time. Don't cancel your Direct Debit if you have one set up – it should be transferred to Rise Fibre automatically when your account is moved over.

  • You can continue to contact TalkTalk's support team for now with any customer services queries.

Unhappy about the move? Check if you can switch and save

If you're out of contract you can leave TalkTalk penalty-free, so it's worth taking a few minutes to check whether you can slash costs AND boost your speed by switching elsewhere – use our Broadband comparison tool (which includes Rise Fibre prices) to see what deals are available in your area. You can also read our broadband switching top tips.

If you're still in contract, you'll have to pay early termination fees if you choose to switch before the end of your minimum contract period. If you're unhappy about this, you can try complaining directly to TalkTalk.

If you don't get a satisfactory resolution, you can take your complaint to CISAS.

Not sure if you're in contract? Here's how to check

You should have received details about your contract when you joined TalkTalk, so first try checking your emails for a contract end date (make sure to check your junk folder, too).

Alternatively, log in to your account on TalkTalk's website. You can also call TalkTalk on 0345 172 0088.
