If you're an Asda delivery pass holder, you can still bag priority bookings for Easter food deliveries – but act quickly, as Saturday 21 March is your last chance. We also round up what's happening at other supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, plus how to save on your Easter food haul – no matter where you shop.

In the UK this year, Easter falls over the 3 April to 6 April bank holiday weekend.

Asda shopper? You still have time to sign up to secure priority access

Here are the key dates you need to keep in mind:

  • Saturday 21 March at 11.59pm. To get early access, you need to purchase a Delivery Pass at any point before this date. Delivery slots opened for Delivery Pass customers on Sunday 15 March, but you still have time to get early access before...

  • Sunday 22 March, when delivery slots will open for everyone else.

Asda's Anytime Delivery Pass costs £7.95 a month for six months or £6.95 a month for 12 months. The supermarket's Midweek Delivery Pass, which gives you all the same perks but only lets you sign up for deliveries between Tuesday and Thursday, costs £4.50 a month for six months or £3.95 a month for 12 months.

At Asda, priority slots will be available during the week leading up to Easter this year. Asda's minimum delivery spend is £40.

Tesco shopper? Easter slots are currently open to all

Tesco also offers priority slots to delivery pass customers over the Easter period, but it's too late to sign up for early access this time around. Delivery slots opened to Anytime Delivery Saver and Click+Collect members on Tuesday 24 February, and to everyone else on Tuesday 3 March.

If you often get your food shops delivered, it may be worth considering a delivery pass. Tesco's Anytime Delivery Saver plan costs £7.99 a month for six months or £6.99 a month for 12 months. The supermarket's Click+Collect plan costs £2.49 a month for six months. Both plans give you access to same day delivery and/or collection for any available slot, as well as early access to book during peak periods, such as Easter and Christmas.

Tesco also offers an Off Peak delivery plan, which gives you access to deliveries from 3pm any day and free collections anytime, though this plan does NOT give you early access to Easter or Christmas delivery slots. Tesco's minimum delivery spend is £50.

Doing your Easter shop elsewhere? Here's what's happening

Tesco and Asda are the only major supermarkets to offer priority delivery slots for Easter this year. If you prefer to shop elsewhere, here's what you need to know:

  • Co-op, Iceland, Morrisons, M&S (via Ocado), Ocado, Sainsbury's and Waitrose will take bookings as normal over Easter. Sainsbury's also told us it will increase the number of delivery slots available over this period, while Waitrose's website states that it is now taking bookings for Easter deliveries between Wednesday 1 April and Saturday 4 April, and you don't need a delivery pass to sign up.

How to save money on your Easter food shop

  1. Ordering online? Take delivery fees and minimum spends into account. Unless you already have a delivery pass, you'll likely need to pay extra to get your shop delivered, and you may be held to a minimum basket price. Be sure to double-check for any added fees before locking in, as they may push you to spend more than you normally would.

  2. If you often order online, check if you can save with a delivery pass. Plus, these typically give you priority access to Christmas food deliveries as well, and these slots tend to go very quickly.

  3. Compare food prices. Naturally, some supermarkets will charge more for Easter-themed items than others. Don't spend more than you otherwise would just to secure a prime delivery slot. Use the free Trolley comparison tool to check the cost of items you regularly buy and set price alerts for them.
