NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) will shut at least 49 of their bank branches in 2026 and 2027, after confirming 10 new closures on Friday 5 June. Below we list which 43 NatWest branches and six RBS branches are disappearing, plus what the alternatives are if you still want face-to-face banking.

NatWest Group – which owns NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank – has also confirmed that, after the most recently announced closures, it'll keep its remaining 336 branches open until at least 2029.

Alternative ways to bank face-to-face with NatWest

  • Head to a nearby Post Office. You can withdraw cash and make deposits into your bank account via the Post Office.

  • Check if there's a 'banking hub' in your area. Banking hubs are shared spaces run by the Post Office – but separate to actual Post Offices – where customers of multiple banks can deposit and withdraw cash, get face-to-face support and manage their accounts. As of Tuesday 9 June, there are 237 hubs up and running around the UK.

Even if there's not a NatWest or RBS representative at your local hub, you can use the banking hub counter to access banking services. You can use the Post Office's branch finder to check if there's a hub near you (if there is, it'll show up in the list with a "banking hub" label).

  • See if there's a 'mobile branch' near you. This can be used for banking services, including making deposits and withdrawing cash. You can find out where your nearest mobile branch is, or when it will next be in your area, on the NatWest or RBS websites.

  • Try an RBS or NatWest branch. Because NatWest and RBS are part of the same group, you can use RBS branches instead of NatWest branches (or vice versa) for your everyday banking, such as cash deposits, withdrawals and paying in cheques – find your nearest.

For full details on your options, see our Bank branch alternatives guide.

If you need branch access and don't have alternative services nearby, consider switching

If you no longer want to stay with NatWest or RBS, you might want to consider switching to a bank that does have a local branch nearby – although bear in mind there's no guarantee that won't close as well. Banks currently paying you to switch to them include:

  • First Direct – get a free £200 for switching, plus 7% interest for a year on up to £300 a month, fee-free spending overseas and a £250 overdraft (for most). To get the free cash, you can't have had ANY First Direct product, and you can't have opened an HSBC current account after January 2018.

First Direct doesn't have any branches of its own, but First Direct customers can use HSBC branches to pay in cheques, as well as deposit and withdraw cash. So, it could be an option if you have an HSBC branch nearby. HSBC has promised not to close bank branches until at least 2027.

  • Barclays – get a free £200 for switching, plus apply and start a switch by 31 July and you'll get 5% cashback on fuel. The account also comes with optional half-price Apple TV. To get the free cash, you can't have ever had switch cash from Barclays, and you can't have opened a Barclays current account before 9 June. Barclays hasn't announced any branch closures so far this year.

For more options, including a free £500 from HSBC if you're a higher earner, see our Best bank accounts guide.
